Applied Learning Programme (ALP)

At Compassvale Primary, we believe that every child has the potential to make a difference — and our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) is designed to help them do achieve that. Guided by our school's Vision, Mission and Values, our ALP focuses on two key goals: nurturing students to become Thinkers of Tomorrow and empowering them to be Contributors to Community.

Nurturing Thinkers of Tomorrow

We aim to provide our students with a strong foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), equipping them with the skills and confidence to think critically and solve problems creatively. Through the Code for Fun and Code for AI programmes, jointly offered by IMDA and MOE, our students learn to develop computational thinking and harness technology not just as users, but as creators — developing the ideas and know-how to build digital solutions for the challenges of tomorrow.

Enabling Contributors to Community

The school also believes that knowledge is most meaningful when it is used in service of others. In view of this, our ALP goes beyond technical skills to nurture students who are empathetic and community minded. Through Design Thinking, students learn to listen deeply, ask the right questions to better understand the needs of the people around them.

Our students will work with our community partners, such as Sengkang General Hospital, to understand the challenges faced by our partners and the clients they serve. Using tools like Microbits and the digital skills they have developed, they then put their learning into action — designing and building solutions that aim to make a genuine difference. Through the iterative process of Design Thinking, they learn to ideate, iterate, reflect, and improve their ideas to better meet needs. In the process, they develop their resilience and creativity along the way.

Compassvale Primary remains committed to ensuring that our ALP remains meaningful and forward-looking. Our curriculum is regularly reviewed and refreshed to incorporate new skills, knowledge and approaches, such as the integration of Design Thinking into digital solution-making. This ensures that our students are always learning in ways that matter. By partnering with a range of stakeholders, we also ensure that our students are exposed to authentic, real-world challenges that make their learning come alive. This holistic approach equips student not just with the knowledge, but with the heart, skills and tools to apply them.
